Unfortunately this year we were not able to shortlist a Trainee Nursing Associate.

The National Student Nurse Congress Award was introduced in 2019 to recognise the achievements of exceptional student nurses. Two years ago we launched the #PackofNurses campaign to find the official collective noun for nurses; the result was a 'Pride' of nurses. Building on the playing card theme we used for #PackofNurses, this year we will be using the Club Suit to symbolise the unity for a common cause. The theme of this year’s congress is ’Integration’; therefore we are integrating nursing students and nursing associates in the National Student Nurse Congress Award. We are looking for students training in nursing who show genuine passion for nursing, who go the extra mile, who strive to make things better and show potential to be a future leader.

     The Process

Each university in the UK that offers pre-registration nurse education and the nursing associate programme can nominate one student nurse and one nursing associate student. The nomination must be for a currently enrolled nursing associate student or a pre-registration student nurse, which can be an undergraduate or postgraduate student.

The University should submit of their nomination to show how the nominee meets two or more of the following criteria:
1.    Shows a real passion for nursing
2.    Who goes above and beyond what is expected of a student in nursing
3.    Who support those around them to be better
4.    Shows potential to be a future leader

Please can we kindly ask that you send through a max 500 word document detailing the following: Full name of the nominator, position within the Nursing Faculty and their contact details. Full name of the student and their contact details. University name and students’ current year of study and which field (if applicable).

The nomination should include examples of contributions that the student has made to the programme, university, profession and/or community. Examples could include charity work and fund raising, leadership of a society or interest group, participation in research activities, presenting at a conference or publishing a paper, advocating or supporting patients or students outside of their course requirements, representing the student body in national or regional groups, won awards or prizes from the university or other organisations, and have received excellent feedback from patients and family members.

This award is not based solely on academic achievements and therefore we do not need the details of students' grades. Whilst academic achievements are important and should be included, we are looking for students who excel in a broad range of areas.

Please send through your nominations to Nikki Yun on studentnurse.congress@stgeorges.nhs.uk
